Other rooms, such as a living room or children’s room, are multi-purpose. Your bathroom might also benefit from bright lighting for shaving or applying makeup in the morning. For example, you might want a bright ceiling light fixture in the hallway to easily find everything you need before leaving the house. In some rooms, it’s a good idea to prioritize bright, practical lighting. The second question is which room you’re lighting, and what you’re doing in the room. If you’re looking to light a workspace, such as a desk or a kitchen island – consider a flush ceiling light located directly above the work area. If you want to highlight a part of your décor, a ceiling track with spotlights might do the trick. As a general light source, a semi-flush, pendant light or chandelier located near the center of the room can be a good choice. When choosing a ceiling light fixture, the first question you need to answer is what it’s going to be used for. Whether you’re looking for a low hanging chandelier, an intricately designed pendant lamp or a ceiling track of spotlights, you’ll find plenty to choose from in our range. Dutton Brown offers the option to hang your chandelier with both a chain and rod for the perfect chandelier hanging height for your space. With ceiling lights from IKEA, you can light a room with style. Rods will cover any wires for a modern look. How will you hang a chandelier in your home? Chains are great for flexible hanging heights from the ceiling and decorating on a budget. See the picture below showing this combination. You then install in the same way as Method 1 by attaching a chain between that loop on the rod and the loop on the canopy. On the end of the rod you screw on a loop. To install, first screw on as many rods as you choose into the top of the fixture. This method is good for rooms with very high ceilings where you want to conceal the wire but also want the option to change the hanging height without purchasing a lot of rods. This maintains the high-end look of a rod but offers the flexibility of a chain. If you're still unsure how high you'd like to hang your fixture, you can use both. Finish installing by securing the fixture to the ceiling using a bracket and finial caps as before. The fixture is brought up to the junction box and wired. Then place the canopy onto the threaded end of the rod and secure the canopy to the rod with a nut and lock washer. Screw them into a threaded hole in top of the fixture (where the loop was for the chain), so that all rods form one long rod. To install, you choose how many rods to use and feed the electrical cord through the rods. One way we reduce fixture cost is to provide rods as add-ons, so you can control how many you buy. However, with many chandeliers you may end up paying for rods you don't need. Many chandeliers include a set of several rod lengths that screw into one another and allow you to choose how high to hang your fixture in fixed increments. There is less hanging height flexibility if you use rods because rods are a fixed length, but this option completely hides the wires for a clean look. The canopy is then secured to the ceiling using a bracket and finial caps included with the canopy kit. Weaving the chain creates a cleaner look for the space. Next, the wire is weaved into the chain and up through the loop on the canopy to be wired to the junction box. Note, the fixture should never hang from the wire itself unless it is a small cordset/single bulb. This chain holds the weight of the fixture when installed. The other end of chain is attached to the loop attached to the canopy which will be secured to the ceiling. Next, chain links are removed (or added) to achieve the desired chain length, and then one end of chain is attached to the loop on the top of the fixture. For attaching a chain, a loop is screwed into this hole around the wire. To install, each light has a threaded hole on top where the wire exits. A foot of chain (unless you want something fancy) typically costs less than a foot of rod. Chain is also usually the cheapest option. This is especially useful if you're installing in a space where you don't know the ceiling measurements or how high exactly you'd like to hang the chandelier. Using chain allows you the flexibility to add or remove links of chain and easily change the hanging height of a chandelier. Below we address each of the three hanging methods we offer. The most important things to consider while choosing which method to use are deciding how much hanging height flexibility you need, overall cost, and personal style preference. Because we can customize a fixture to suit your space, you have the option to choose which method is best for your space. Typically, the hanging method is dictated by the manufacturer. There are several ways to hang a chandelier.
